    Usually we say "ingegnere informatico", but it's correct also the way you wrote it. Remember that "imperfetto" is used to describe continuous actions in the past(like the action of wanting to become something or someone), while "passato prossimo"(ho voluto) it's used to describe instant actions in the past. Further "passato remoto" is rarely used in spoken Italian(so even if you want to talk about something happened years ago, usually you would use "avevo" rather than "ebbi": da bambino avevo un gatto\da bambino ebbi un gatto). Anyway you're doing very well. I hope my French could be the same :-)
